shadowboxin is a fully-generalized matrix of graphical cellular automata. each cellular automaton is energized by passing the mouse over it. in this instance, energy translates to decreased brightness, but it can just as easily be interpreted as hue or saturation, or the red, green, or blue component of an RGB triplet.

shadowboxin currently has two user-accessible parameters: decay rate and refresh rate. the decay rate controls how many rounds it takes built-up energy to dissipate. the refresh rate controls how quickly each round executes. if your machine is slow, turn this all the way up.

shadowboxin was inspired by the genius/gza song of the same name. [ listen ] to the song in realaudio. [ buy ] the album «liquid swords» from cdnow.
